Holy moly! I am looking at job boards regularly, and wow! What a mess.

👉 AI-applicant meets AI-recruiter 🎭, and the truth is muddled.

Don’t get me wrong: AI is a great tool and I love it! And, in the context of job search and recruiting, it makes a lot of sense:

for applicants to use AI to polish their resume to go through ATS
for recruiters to use it to screen for the best possible candidates

But it also makes it harder, blurry and noisy for everyone involved.

So, what is one to do with AI when it is both a blessing and a curse? After consideration, I decided that I would also use AI in my quest for the perfect match, but differently.

First, the robots work...

Instead of using AI tools to massively apply (and/or to obscure the truth for ATS), I created a N8N workflow where:

A job search is performed using serpAPI (free plan)
ChatGPT selects roles where I am genuinely a great fit and where my multidimensional patchwork experience can bring great value

At this point, I already save a lot of time because there are not many such jobs descriptions for me to read through, and they are all very interesting to me

ChatGPT prepares:
- a summary about the company
- a list of the reasons why I am a fit for the job and what value I can bring to the company
- some tips for my application
Finally, all the information is nicely formatted in an email and in a spreadsheet

... But the human makes the connection:

I do a bit more due diligence and then craft my resume and cover letter myself, without the use of AI. I think this last point is very important. I want to find a match that is great and create a long-term work relationship, so I don't want to hide or polish or enhance who I am.
