What could be better than a chocolate brownie? A brownie that would taste like Nutella AND that would be healthy! Could a brownie without sugar and without four even exist? YES!
This recipe makes a fantastic chocolate brownie, and it is way healthier and more satisfying than the regular version. The magic comes from the combination of cocoa with hazelnut butter.
It doesn’t contain any sugar nor sugar replacement nor any type of white flour and only contains whole single-item minimally processed ingredients.
You can actually control the sweetness depending on the ripeness of the bananas. If they are still yellow, the brownie will be slightly sweet. If the bananas are getting all brown and mushy, the brownie may actually be too sweet for your taste!
240 g ripe banana (about 2 large bananas), they riper they are, the sweeter the brownie will be
100 g eggs (2 medium eggs)
120 g hazelnut butter, it needs to be made from 100% hazelnuts with no added sugar or oils
25 g unsweetened cocoa powder
60 g almond flour
Preheat the oven to 180°C
Mash the two bananas
Mix the two eggs
Add in the bananas
Stir in the hazelnut butter
Add the cocoa powder and almond flour; mix to a thick batter
Spread into pan
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes according to your taste. 22min is divinely fudgy
Beat the two eggs
Add the mashed bananas
Add the hazelnut butter and mix well
Add the almond flour and cocoa powder
After mixing well, pour into a baking dish
After about 22 minutes, check the readiness with a knife. There should still be moisture on the knife if you want the brownie to be fudgey.
Let’s be clear: this is not a low-calorie recipe. But it is also way more satiating than a regular brownie, so we don’t eat that much at one time.
Let's look at the benefits of the superstar ingredients one by one:
Pure cocoa is rich in antioxidants and minerals. It supports the heart and the brain, and is said to boost mood!
Eggs provide complete protein and essential vitamins. They support the muscles, brain and nerves, and even eye health!
Bananas are rich in potassium and carbs, they provide steady energy and support muscle and nerve function.
Hazelnuts are a source of healthy fats and minerals. These fats help lower the “bad” cholesterol and support brain health. Moderation is key.
Almonds are rich in vitamin E, magnesium, and healthy fats. They also provide fiber and protein, helping with satiety and stable blood sugar as well as hair and skin health.
