Part 3 - Supporting the growth

Climbing roses need to be supported to grow strong. At the time of writing, they are still tiny plants (which were planted last November), now is the best time to create the structure that will allow them to grow and flourish for years to come.

Once and for all

As I wanted to do this once and only once, I decided to use the most durable materials. It is a larger time investment to put everything in place at the beginning, but it will save us time and money over time by removing the need for maintenance and not having to replace the whole structure. The following combination should last decades:

• Wooden poles specially treated for outdoor resistance (pin traité autoclave classe 4): 70x70mm / 3m high 

• Galvanized steel supports for planting the poles into the ground: 71x71mm / 75cm deep

• Stainless steel rods to fix the poles into the wall: 10 mm diameter

• Stainless steel cables and accessories to guide the roses: 3mm thickness
