When I open a fitness app, I don't want to have to scroll through a catalog of exercises and training plans. I am not here for entertainment nor doom scrolling. No no no, I am here... to move my body!
So why do a lot of fitness apps overwhelm me with choices and text as soon as I open them? We all know that getting motivated to start a workout can be hard enough some days...
Why do most fitness apps add friction? That's putting it in User eXperience terms.
Anyway, this is not how this one works. The CALIGYM app is meant to help people start their fitness journey, it is meant be as easy as possible to move the body instead of staring at the screen.
Open. Click. Start moving.
That's the whole idea.
And here are a few design choices that reflect this philosophy.
When you register as a user, you choose a fitness journey. From there on, there is no more deciding and you will be guided through a new session every day without having to think.
Therefore, the homepage only requires clicking on one button to get you started immediately on today's session.
While following along a workout session, only absolutely necessary information is displayed: the name of the exercise, a video explaining the move, the number of reps/sets, the pause, and specific execution details.
However, additional information is accessible by clicking on the ? button.
There is extremely comprehensive description of the exercises, but it is not displayed to users by default.
It is however always accessible, and can be accessed by just clicking a button.
